Psychotherapy & Wellness

AN ECLECTIC APPROACH

Not all life situations are approached with the same resolution plan.  We need to take into consideration many factors that can affect our strategies.  The same goes for psychotherapy and wellness.  There are many options to intervention and we all don't respond identically to the same therapy.  An integrative approach to solution oriented therapy seems to make more sense, since there is so much out there, and there is something good in all that's available.  Some of the types of therapy I use are listed below.  Sometimes I use one discipline or a mixture of therapies.  It depends on what we are working on.

Psychodynamic-Analytical Psychotherapy

Psychothérapie psychodynamique-analytique

The psychodynamic approach includes all the theories in psychology that see human functioning based upon the interaction of drives and forces within the person, particularly unconscious between the different structures of the personality.

Mindfulness Meditation & Positive Psychology

Méditation de pleine conscience et la psychologie positive

Stress, anger, disappointments, frustrations, and other negative emotions adversely affect our minds and even bodies. Such negative emotions and actions should be dealt effectively and set-backs should be accepted without injuring our health. Mindfulness Meditation is that medicine which helps to deal with negative emotions and situations in the most effective manner.

Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (ACT)

Thérapie cognitive-comportementale

Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) gets it name from one of its core messages: accept what is out of your personal control, and commit to action that improves and enriches your life.  The aim of ACT is to maximise human potential for a rich full and meaningful life. ACT does this by:

(a) teaching you psychological skills to deal with your painful thoughts and feelings effectively – in such a way that they have much less impact and influence over you.  These are known as mindfulness skills.

(b) helping you to clarify what is truly important and meaningful to you  - ie your values - then use that knowledge to guide, inspire and motivate you to change your life for the better.

Health Psychology & Behavioral Nutrition

Psychologie de la santé et de la nutrition

Health Psychology studies the complex relationship among psychological, social, and biological factors implicated in health and illness. It applies theoretical models of psychophysiological wellness, health, and immunocompetence; identifies personal and environmental factors that impact health; and applies evidence-based psychological interventions that address the role of stress on health.

(a)   Recommend evidence-based mind/body interventions to help patients establish symptom management or attenuate physical illnesses.

(b)   Articulate the impact of nutrition on psychological dysfunction.

(c)  Use nutritional models to promote psychological wellness and mitigate illness.

(d)  Use behavioral nutrition as an approach to healing psychological and psychophysiological illness and abnormal behavior.

Integrative Psychotherapy & Coaching™

Psychothérapie intégrative et coaching

Integrative Psychotherapy and Coaching refers to utilizing different methods and techniques to meet the client’s goals, rather than focusing exclusively on one theory or school of thought.  It also relates to the integration of mind, body, spiritual and socio-economic factors.  As individuals, we all have different personalities, physiologies and life experiences that contribute to who we are.  It is important to look at and unify these realms, in order to live more fully and in the present.

Sport Psychology and Performance Enhancement

La psychologie du sport et l'amélioration de la performance

Sports Psychology is about improving your attitude and mental game skills to help you perform your best by identifying limiting beliefs and embracing a healthier philosophy about your sport. Below is a list of the benefits of sports psychology:

(1) Improve focus and deal with distractions.

(2) Grow confidence in athletes who have doubts.

(3) Develop coping skills to deal with setbacks and errors.

(4) Find the right zone of intensity for your sport.

(5) Help teams develop communication skills and cohesion.

(6) To instill a healthy belief system and identify irrational thoughts.

(7) Improve or balance motivation for optimal performance.

(8) Develop confidence post-injury.

(9) To develop game-specific strategies and game plans.

(10) To identify and enter the "zone" more often.

Body Composition Analysis

L'analyse de la composition corporelle

Understanding and being able to explain the difference between healthy leanness and undesirable thinness is one important concept the fitness instructor, personal trainer, and exercise leader must share with clients. In addition, there are some other reasons to become more informed about body composition:

(1) To develop complete physical fitness profiles for clients.

(2) To monitor body fat loss and muscle growth resulting from exercise.

(3) To provide baseline data for nutritional counseling and treatment of obesity.

(4) To describe changes due to growth, development, maturation, and aging.

(5) To maximize the performance of athletes.
