Peace Pilgrim

From 1953 to 1981 a silver haired woman calling herself only "Peace Pilgrim" walked more than 25,000 miles on a personal pilgrimage for peace. She vowed to "remain a wanderer until mankind has learned the way of peace, walking until given shelter and fasting until given food." In the course of her 28 year pilgrimage she touched the hearts, minds, and lives of thousands of individuals all across North America. Her message was both simple and profound. It continues to inspire people all over the world.

International Committee of the Red Cross

The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) is an impartial, neutral and independent organization whose exclusively humanitarian mission is to protect the lives and dignity of victims of armed conflict and other situations of violence and to provide them with assistance.  The ICRC also endeavours to prevent suffering by promoting and strengthening humanitarian law and universal humanitarian principles.

 

National Peace Foundation

The National Peace Foundation is committed to solving problems and preventing conflict through community peacebuilding and citizen empowerment. We work where the institutions of civil society (such as health, justice, education, safety) have failed or are no longer effective, NPF empowers local citizens to improve their situation and reduce conflict.

 

War Resisters Support Campaign

During the period of 1965-1973, more than 50,000 Americans made their way to Canada, refusing to participate in an immoral war. At the time, Prime Minister Pierre Trudeau said: "Those who make a conscientious judgment that they must not participate in this war... have my complete sympathy, and indeed our political approach has been to give them access to Canada. Canada should be a refuge from militarism."

Ceasefire.ca is a network of more than 20,000 Canadians who want Canada to be a world leader for peace, disarmament, and social justice.  Ceasefire.ca is a project of the Rideau Institute, an independent research, advocacy and consulting group based in Ottawa. It provides research, analysis and commentary on public issues to decision makers, opinion leaders and the public. It is a federally registered non-profit organization, established in January 2007.
